Evolution of Big Data Architecture at Facebook – a case study
– Ashish Thusoo, Qubole, ex-Facebook
Ashish will talk about how big data architectures have evolved at Facebook from 2007 till 2011. The talk will cover some of the challenges faced in a highly dynamic and fast growing environment and will present the motivations behind some of the components and technologies that were put in place to enable large parts of the company to access, analyze and use data for various different purposes. He will also present some of the key learnings from the Facebook experience and will talk about a new company, Qubole (http://www.qubole.com) – that he has co-founded, that is building cloud based “big data” services to address some of those pain points.

Real time Log Analytics – a Big Data case study
– Kumar Saurabh, Sumo Logic
Kumar will show how business insights from IT log data can be gleamed in real time. Logs are the key ingredient for operations and engineering teams to ensure that applications are up and running smoothly, and could be troubleshooted efficiently in case of issues. He will give a quick overview of how real time analytics has evolved over the years, and introduce ‘LogReduce’ technology that helps enterprises wrangle the log data exhaust.

– Ashish Thusoo
Ashish Thusoo is the Co-founder/CEO of Qubole (http://www.qubole.com) – a startup building a cloud based platform to analyze and process data. Before co-founding Qubole, Ashish ran the Data Infrastructure team at Facebook (http://www.facebook.com). Under his leadership, the team created one of the largest data processing and analytics platform in the world – a platform that achieved the bold aim of making data accessible to analysts, engineers and data scientists alike within the company. In the process he helped drive the creation of tools, technologies and templates for successful “big data” deployments – artifacts that have become mainstream in the “big data” revolution. He is also the co-creator of Apache Hive (http://hive.apache.org/) and served as the project’s founding Vice President at the Apache Software Foundation. He started his working career as an engineer at Oracle where he contributed heavily to many core components of Oracle RDBMS and learnt the art of building successful products.

Sumo Logic is the next generation log management and analytics service that leverages Big Data to deliver IT insights in real time,at unprecedented scale. Before co-founding Sumo Logic, Kumar was the data architect at Mint.com (http://www.mint.com/) where he built the data infrastructure behind mint.com. Kumar spent 7 plus years prior to that at ArcSight (http://www.arcsight.com/),where he led the analytics and solutions team, delivering solutions inlog management as well as security event management space.
