Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the head of R&D at Glas Trösch Group, a glass manufacturing and processing company. We have various operation businesses, the biggest of which is the architectural business. Our company manufactures glass and processes installations, then sells them to facade or window builders. We have an international business in Europe that supplies architectural glass to Singapore, Australia, the US, and the Middle East.
We have a smaller business in display glass. Our company also supplies cover glass for different applications, mainly to the automotive industry. Additionally, we provide glass in motion for train systems and acrylic for aviation cockpits.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with ThirdEye Data?
Our architectural glass manufacturing production was in the Stone Age. At the R&D department, our material scientists didn’t know anything about data and the value that could be generated using it. The idea behind the project was to look at our data and check the possibility of applying AI to our process.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
ThirdEye Data provided us with AI consulting. Initially, we had several meetings to explain our goal. We tasked the team with analyzing whether we should use AI algorithms to increase our manufacturing equipment’s performance, reliability, and quality output.

We found them through a recommendation. I asked a friend who worked at Google for a suggestion, and they recommended ThirdEye Data.

We worked with them from January–June 2020.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Thanks to ThirdEye Data’s work, we realized the importance of data acquisition and data quality. We learned that our data quality wasn’t good enough, and AI wasn’t applicable to our kind of production. In our case, this negative result was positive for us, as it enabled us to focus on other solutions that took less time and resources.

Their project management and communication were top-notch. ThirdEye Data planned the project well, completed the work on time, and delivered what we expected.
What did you find most impressive about them?
For me, it was important that a partner matched the deliverables, timeline, and budget, and ThirdEye Data met all those requirements, which is rare in most projects.
